چکیده

Abstract Grain size distributions are widely used to describe sedimentary geochemistry, depositional environment, and sediment transportation. The objective of this study is analyze grain modern sandy beach sediments in Sri Lanka. Sediment samples ( n = 90) were collected from berm, representing the entire coastline sizes determined by dry-sieving method. Statistical parameters such as mean size, sorting, skewness, kurtosis calculated using GRADISTAT V9.1 software for all sieved samples. variations (108.2 – 609.8 µm) show that Lanka mainly consists medium sand, whereas northeast part country mixes with fine sand due influence Bengal fan sediments. skewness (-0.229 0.446) sorting (1.305 2.436) indicate symmetrical distributed moderately sorted These specify a moderate energy environment/wave action around In addition, analysis confirmed relatively high low deposition environments on west east coasts, respectively. Accordingly, coast more vulnerable coastal erosion compared Therefore, provides baseline distribution data can be decision-making zone management mitigating erosion.

The use of grain size distribution analysis in forensic enquiry was investigated with reference to four forensic case studies which contained the type of sample restraints and limitations often encountered in criminal case work. The problems of the comparison of trace and bulk samples are outlined and the need for multiple sample analysis is highlighted. It was found that the problems of soil a...
